Meet Our New Crush: Kenya Kamundu Estate SL28 Natural

We're beyond stoked to introduce our very first coffee from Kenya here at Stay High Coffee, and let us tell you, it's an absolute showstopper. Imagine juicy stone fruit, the rich depth of blackcurrant, and a delightful, sweet hint of lychee. Seriously, it's a taste adventure you won't want to miss, all thanks to its meticulous natural processing – a true rarity for Kenyan coffees!

From Estate to Cup: The Heart of Kamundu

This amazing coffee comes to us from the renowned Kamundu Estate, nestled in the vibrant Kiambu County of Kenya. It's a place steeped in generations of coffee history. What started as a colonial establishment is now one of six estates proudly owned and operated by Sasini, a publicly listed company with a powerful majority Kenyan ownership.

But Sasini's dedication goes way beyond just growing incredible beans. Their heart is truly in their community! They provide comfortable living quarters, early childhood education, union membership, and wages that are guaranteed to be above the minimum for their hard-working team. Plus, in an incredible collaboration with Olam Specialty and over 30 customers, they've poured significant investment into the local Njenga Karume primary school, building a brand new computer lab. This is all about equipping students with vital IT skills for our increasingly digital world, creating a brighter future for the next generation. That's the kind of impact we love to see, and it's a huge part of why we're so proud to share this coffee with you.

The Magic of Kiambu: Nature's Perfect Coffee Cradle

Kiambu County, just a stone's throw from Nairobi, boasts a rich, storied history of coffee production, and for good reason. This region basically offers the dream conditions for Arabica coffee to flourish. We're talking proximity to the equator, incredibly iron-rich, semi-volcanic soil, abundant sunshine, and consistently high altitudes that climb up to 1950 meters above sea level. Those cool night temperatures in these fertile highlands are key – they allow the coffee cherries to mature slowly, letting them develop that distinct, vibrant acidity and incredible complexity you'll find dancing in your cup.

A Rare Jewel: Natural Processing in Kenya

Now, here's where the Kamundu Estate SL28 really stands out from the crowd. Kenya is famously known for its "fully washed" coffees, but this lot is a rare and absolutely exceptional naturally processed gem. At Sasini, selected ripe cherries undergo a meticulous drying process, spread out in the warm sun on traditional raised African beds for up to six weeks! It's an art form, really. They're carefully turned to ensure consistent drying and prevent any over-fermentation or mould, with the cherries lovingly covered at night and during any rain to protect them from moisture damage. This painstaking method is what coaxes out those incredible fruity, vibrant notes we mentioned earlier, making it truly unique.

This dedication to quality, combined with the ideal growing conditions of the terroir and Sasini's inspiring, community-focused approach, makes the Kenya Kamundu Estate SL28 Natural a truly remarkable and exciting addition to the Stay High Coffee selection. We absolutely cannot wait for you to brew it up and experience this incredible journey in every single sip.
