Cesar Buesaquillo: A Passion Cultivated
This incredible coffee comes from Cesar Buesaquillo and his family at Finca La Esmeralda in Buenavista, Quindio. Cesar was born into a traditional coffee farming family, and his passion for coffee began early, visiting the farms where his parents worked as pickers and managers. About 20 years ago, his parents acquired La Esmeralda, a 6-hectare farm now overseen by Cesar, his wife Maria, and their son Kevin.
Maria is a true partner, guiding Cesar through important decisions and making them a formidable team. While Cesar came from a background focused on commodity coffee, he made the bold decision to pursue speciality coffee practices, focusing on unique varieties like Pink Bourbon and Gesha. He's constantly experimenting with processing methods, firmly believing that quality should drive the coffee industry forward. When he's not working on the farm, Cesar loves spending time with his family, enjoying a coffee or a meal on the patio, soaking in the stunning views over his farm. This connection to family, land, and quality is what makes Finca La Esmeralda truly special.
The Enigmatic Pink Bourbon & Natural Process
This micro-lot is 100% Pink Bourbon, a varietal currently under fascinating research to determine its precise origin. It's believed to be a natural mutation that occurred at high altitudes in Huila.
The coffee cherries are carefully hand-picked at peak ripeness and meticulously hand-sorted to remove any defects. They are then sun-dried on raised beds in temperature-controlled conditions until they reach the ideal moisture content. This careful natural processing allows the intrinsic sweetness and complex fruitiness of the Pink Bourbon to truly shine.
